SANTA FE – Today, Sept. 2, 2024, at around 1 a.m., the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) was dispatched to Interstate 25, milepost 283 south of Santa Fe, for a wrong-way driver.
The car was reported to be traveling south in the northbound lane. As the officers responded to the area, the car, a 2014 Nissan driven by Albert Austin James Titla, 25, of Santa Fe, struck a 2007 GMC Pickup head-on near milepost 275.
Titla suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
The 39-year-old male driver of the GMC sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. His condition and extent of injury are not known.
It is unknown if alcohol was a contributing factor. The details leading up to the crash are under investigation by NMSP.
