NMSP Arrests Santa Fe Teens For Shooting At Vehicle, Injuring Juvenile

SANTA FE—On Nov. 2, 2024, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate a shooting involving a 16-year-old victim.

State Police agents learned that on Saturday, Nov. 2, the NMSP Uniform Bureau responded to the 6300 block of Entrada De Milagro in reference to a 16-year-old gunshot victim. Through the investigation, agents learned that at approximately 2 p.m., an 18 and 19 year old were driving to pick up a friend when they noticed a red vehicle following them. They recognized the occupants of that vehicle to be Anthony Cruz Padilla, 17, and Abraham Pineda, 17, both of Santa Fe. The victims knew Padilla and Pineda were known to be violent.

After picking up their friend, the three proceeded to drive to their destination. At the intersection of NM-599 and Horizon Lane they again observed Padilla and Pineda stopped at the same intersection. Padilla and Pineda then began shooting into the vehicle. The juvenile who had just been picked up was struck by gunfire. The suspect vehicle then fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a local area hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The extent of the injuries and current condition are not known.

The suspects and their vehicle were later located. They were both arrested and booked into the Farmington Juvenile Detention Center, which was the closest available juvenile detention center.

Anthony Padilla was charged with:

  • Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (two counts)
  • Shooting at or from a motor vehicle resulting in great bodily harm
  • Shooting at or from a motor vehicle with no injury (two counts)
  • Conspiracy
  • Possession of a stolen firearm
  • Unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon

Abraham Pineda was charged with:

  • Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
  • Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (two counts)
  • Shooting at or from a motor vehicle resulting in great bodily harm
  • Shooting at or from a motor vehicle with no injury (two counts)
  • Conspiracy

This incident remains under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau.
