NMSA News:

Jasper Keen, a junior theater student at New Mexico School for the Arts, has been selected as a 2015 YoungArts Finalist.

New Mexico’s first-ever finalist – and the only finalist in New Mexico this year – Keen will receive an all-expense paid trip to Miami Jan. 3-10 to take master classes with world class theatre professionals.

The National YoungArts Foundation identifies and supports the next generation of artists in the visual, literary, design and performing arts; assists them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development; and raises appreciation for the arts in American society.

Founded in 1981, the Foundation receives approximately 11,000 applications each year from artists between 15 and18 years old (or grades 10-12). From these, approximately 700 are selected, who then go on to participate in programs in Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.

NMSA was a recipient of the national Arts Schools Network Exemplary School Designation at its annual conference in Denver earlier this year, and has been graded an “A” school for the third year in a row from the New Mexico Public Education Department.

NMSA is accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year. The application cycle closes in mid-January, and information on admission policies and the application process can be found at www.NMSchoolForTheArts.org.
