NMSA News:

New Mexico School for the Arts’ Visual Art senior class opens Sonder.

It presents a diverse range of responses to the multitudes of meaning each person can express and interpret through art. As these 19 young artists complete four years of art study, this exhibition looks to the future with passion, introspection, and determination. Sonder explores the realization and understanding that everyone around you leads just as complex a life as you do. Each artist’s work examines their individual life experience while simultaneously considering the collective connection with their peers.

The range of media in this exhibition includes ornate painting, ceramic sculpture, found object assemblage, precise laser cutting, mysterious illustration, graphic printmaking, digital rendering, sequential imagery, narrative painting, intricate installations, intuitive drawing, wool felting, and much more. It highlights the rich experiences of students from across New Mexico as they discover what the world has to offer. From writing, sketching, making mockups, and curating objects, Sonder is the result of hard work and creative courage, providing a look into the intense creation and range of research processes unique to each participating artist.

Sonder’s opening reception will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 11, 2025, at 500 Montezuma Avenue and will be open to the public at New Mexico School for the Arts in the Thaw Visual Arts Gallery. The exhibition will be viewable by appointment from April 14, 2025, to May 20, 2025.
