SANTA FE ― The New Mexico School for the Arts admissions office is hosting an open house for prospective students and their families 10 a.m., today, Dec. 7, immediately followed at noon by in-depth audition workshops.
The events are at the school’s railyard campus at 500 Montezuma Ave., in Santa Fe. Both the open house and audition workshop events are FREE and no RSVP is required.
Admission to NMSA is based solely on a performance audition or portfolio review, no academic criteria are used. Students are admitted based solely on defined measures of passion, promise, and aptitude for an art form, irrespective of their level of prior training or academic background. As a public school, enrollment at New Mexico School for the Arts is tuition-free.
The Open House will showcase academic and arts programs at NMSA. Families will participate in a brief overview of programs followed by an hour-long, self-guided, rotating tour of the major arts disciplines and academic areas of study. Every 15 minutes, families will rotate to another discipline or academic area of study. Residential Director, Hannah Lamberto, will be available to answer questions regarding the residential dormitory program available to students who live more than 75 miles outside of Santa Fe.
Audition Workshops are led by the five major arts departments: Creative Writing & Literature, Dance, Music, Theatre, Visual Arts. These workshops are designed to prepare students and their parents/guardians for the audition and interview process. Faculty members will go over the audition requirements and interview process for their respective departments. Prospective students that have already applied are encouraged to bring their audition materials for peer review.
