SANTA FE — The New Mexico Music Commission (NMMC) has launched its first grant program to support music performance and activities in communities across the state.
The “Music in the Community” grants program aims to enrich rural, tribal, veteran, disability and other underserved communities through funding that supports new or existing music engagement, music education, music appreciation or music performance programs or activities in New Mexico.
Ten $2,500 grants will be awarded to individuals or organizations bringing music and music programming into their communities.
“We are excited to see the impact of the NM Music Commission growing and to be able to support more musicians than ever before,” Music Commission Chair Carlos Medina said. “Through this grant program we will bring more music to our communities statewide.”
Applicants may use the funding to support a variety of music programs, including musical performances in local venues or festivals, lectures or presentations about music-focused topics, musical instrument demonstrations, music-focused workshops, music exhibitions or other similar projects that engage people of all ages.
The deadline for applications is Oct. 4 and those receiving funding will be notified by Nov. 22, 2024. Grant project activities must take place between Jan. 1 and June 15, 2025, with a final report due on June 15, 2025. Funds are paid on a reimbursement basis, so the program activities being funded must be completed before payment can be made.
