New Mexico History Museum’s (NMHM) First Wednesday ZOOM lecture series continues noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 with a look at 100 years of New Mexico Magazine, the first state magazine in the United States.
The “EnchantOrama! New Mexico Magazine Turns 100” will be presented by the Museum’s curator of photographs and archival collections, Hannah Abelbeck who brings many years of experience to the curatorial department.

EnchantOrama’s Lenses: Photographs from the New Mexico Magazine Collection
Collections Curator Hannah Abelbeck will discuss the EnchantOrama! exhibition and share a behind the scenes view into the Museum’s New Mexico Magazine Photo Collection. This lecture will include photo themes featured in the exhibition, introduce the rest of the collection not on display, dive deep into a few interesting frames and discuss the visual legacy created by the Magazine’s editors and photographers.
NOTE: The “EnchantOrama! New Mexico Magazine Turns 100” exhibition is on display at the New Mexico History Museum through Feb. 16, 2024.
Abelbeck has worked at the New Mexico History Museum for ten years and is currently the Curator of Photographs and Archival Collections in the Palace of the Governors Photo Archives and the Fray Angélico Chávez History Library. Originally from Nebraska, Abelbeck studied English and Art History at the University of Kansas and received a Masters in English from Pennsylvania State University. With experience in publishing, rare books, and special collections and archives, Collections Curator Abelbeck is an advocate for making the New Mexico History Museum’s archival collections more accessible to the public.
