The New Mexico Environment Department is holding its first quarterly public meeting in Los Alamos until 7 p.m. today in the Pajarito Room at Fuller Lodge.

NMED Cabinet Secretary, NMED Resource Protection Division Director Stephanie Stringer and NMED Administrative Services Director Michelle Desmond spoke on the primary topic of the event, which is the mission and work of the Environment Department’s Department of Energy Oversight Bureau, as well as a discussion on a proposed move of the Bureau’s Los Alamos Field Office to Santa Fe.

There are a lot of public comments this evening from residents pushing to keep an office here in town.

The staff from the Los Alamos office was introduced including including DOE-OB Chief Susan Lucas Kamat, Stephen Yanicak, Megan Green, Dylan Boyle and Jaben Richards. They spoke about what they do here, which they explained is to primarily collect data for oversight that is shared with all stakeholders.

A major portion of this evening’s discussion centered around the department’s decision to issue a request for proposals (RFP) to find office space in Los Alamos County so as to keep a NMED oversight bureau office here.
