NMDOT On ‘NM Bike Plan’ 45-Day Comment Period

SANTA FE The New Mexico Department of Transportation has released the draft of the Prioritized Statewide Bicycle Network Plan (NM Bike Plan) for public review and comment.
This 45-day public comment period runs through Nov. 9. The Draft of the Plan is available on the project website: http://www.bhinc.com/nm-bike-plan/.
The NM Bike Plan considers how best to provide New Mexico residents and visitors with a safe and connected bicycle network on state maintained and owned roads and highways. Major plan components include:
  • A map of prioritized bicycle routes on State maintained and owned roads and highways that identifies planned investments in bicycle infrastructure during roadway reconstruction; and,
  • Design guidelines for bicycle facilities that are specific to the road type, road usage, and types of bicyclists using the route.
NMDOT with Bohannon Houston, Inc. and Alta Planning and Design, consultants for the plan, developed the plan over the past year. The NM Bike plan incorporates the public comments received during two phases of public meetings and online information sharing, results from an equity analysis and demand analysis, as well as information and guidance from local and regional agencies across the state.
Opportunities to review the Draft NM Bike Plan and provide comment are available at the project website: http://www.bhinc.com/nm-bike-plan/. The website has a comment form on the “Contact Us” tab, where the public or other stakeholders may submit their comments. They may also submit their comments directly to the project email address: NMBikePlan@bhinc.com.
