Newly Created Anchorum Health Foundation Commits $500 Million Over 10 Years To Get In Front Of New Mexico’s Health Crisis

Anchorum St. Vincent News:

SANTA FE — Officials from Anchorum St. Vincent announced that they have pledged the proceeds from the recent membership reorganization with CHRISTUS Health to the newly created Anchorum Health Foundation.

Over the next 10 years, Anchorum Health Foundation will receive more than $500 million from Anchorum St. Vincent, which includes most of its current assets, along with the proceeds from the membership reorganization announced in October.

“The mission of the Health Foundation is to Build Healthy Communities and invest our growing resources towards Prevention, Access, and Opportunity,” said Chair Sayuri Yamada of the new Anchorum Health Foundation Board of Directors. “The vision for Anchorum Health Foundation has been in the heart and mind of our colleague, Jerry Jones, since he joined Anchorum more than six years ago. He is passionate about leading new strategies, approaches, and pathways to positively impact his home state of New Mexico. I am pleased to announce that Jerry will serve as President and CEO of Anchorum Health Foundation.”

“I am honored to lead the new Anchorum Health Foundation and feel the weight and urgency of our mission,” Jones said. “Throughout my time with the organization, we have seen alarming health data from northern New Mexico and within our state. The data tells us that, clearly, there is a growing health crisis in the state, and Anchorum is going to do something about it.”

New Mexico’s Health Crisis

A study shows that when comparing 2008 to 2020, New Mexico is worse off on 18 of 38 health indicators. Anchorum’s work over the last five years has proven that only about 20 percent of the cause for this dramatic decline can be solved by hospitals. The other 80 percent needs to be addressed in our communities. With hospitals and clinics closing (or potentially closing) services like primary care, OB-GYN, and ICUs, coupled with a national and local shortage of nurses and doctors, increased incidences of addiction and homelessness, and an increased need for better educational outcomes and affordable housing, the need for a focused, long-term approach has never been greater. This is why Anchorum Health Foundation was established.

Anchorum Health Foundation’s new strategy promises a 100 percent focus on the future of health in New Mexico. Getting in front of New Mexico’s health crisis and uniting communities with real solutions.

“Today, we are announcing a 10-year commitment for the new Anchorum Health Foundation strategy—devoting nearly $200 million to get in front of New Mexico’s health crisis by providing support for the prevention of disease, addiction, and homelessness,” Jones said. “Investing to improve access to primary and specialty healthcare and behavioral health. Funding opportunities that expand affordable housing, improve educational attainment, workforce learning, and explore new ways for healthy aging in our communities.”

This newly established foundation in New Mexico, and now the largest, is committed to putting its significant resources and proven partnerships to work to build healthy communities. Serving as an anchor partner to community-based anchor institutions like nonprofits, hospitals, governments, schools, colleges, Community Development Financial Institutions and more, Anchorum Health Foundation wants to remove the obstacles and bridge the gaps in communities that have prevented New Mexicans from thriving.

Health Focused History and Future

Since 2008, Anchorum has been dedicated to improving patient access, clinical outcomes, and financial health at CHRISTUS St. Vincent’s Regional Medical Center. Today, St. Vincent’s has been transformed into one of the highest-rated, highest-quality hospitals in the state, with 2,400 dedicated physicians, nurses, and staff and the only hospital in New Mexico that is part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network.

Transformative, Not Transactional

Relentless and persistent, Anchorum is actively involved in projects that are transformative. For example, the purchase of the Lamplighter Motel to provide permanent housing for the unhoused, the establishment of Santa Fe Recovery as a medical detox facility, the Community Catalyst Fund with Homewise to produce approximately 1,000 new homes in the next seven years, and the deployment of more than $15 million to well over 100 trusted nonprofit grantees across northern new Mexico in the last five years proves that Anchorum will continue to unite communities with real solutions.

The organization also unveiled its new brand identity, which includes a logo, along with corresponding imagery and color palette. The new foundation and its new look position the organization for the future.
