NMTLAF News:
ALBUQUERQUE — At a time when New Mexico families are facing rising costs and growing uncertainty, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Foundation (NMTLF) stepped up in a powerful way.
Through its CARES program, the Foundation donated $102,000 to 24 nonprofit organizations across the state, providing critical support to hunger relief, housing stability, healthcare access, and services for children and families in crisis.
More than 100 attorneys and law firms participated in the CARES program, demonstrating the legal community’s deep commitment to serving New Mexicans beyond the courtroom.
The nonprofit recipients span urban and rural communities and include organizations working on the front lines of food insecurity, homelessness, child welfare, and health care, including: All Faiths; APS Title I Homeless Project; Casa de Peregrinos; Children’s Grief Center of New Mexico; The Community Pantry; Crossroads for Women; Cuidando los Niños; ECHO; Enlace Comunitario; Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico; The Food Depot; Healthcare for the Homeless; Joy Junction; La Piñon; New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs; New Mexico Association of Food Banks, which serves all 33 counties; NM Voices for Children; PB&J Family Services; Roadrunner Food Bank; St. Michael’s & All Angels; Taos Feeds Taos; UNM Foundation – Lobo Food Pantry; New Mexico Friends of Foster Children; and UNM Children’s Hospital – ChildLife UNMH Pediatrics.
The need was especially acute during the federal government shutdown, when cuts to SNAP benefits left thousands of families without reliable access to food. In response, CARES donors raised a record amount to help nonprofits meet the unprecedented surge in demand.
“Trial lawyers are committed to showing up for our neighbors. Sometimes that means being of service at work and sometimes that means being of service as a community member,” said Alexandra Cervantes, New Mexico Trial Lawyers Foundation President. “Through CARES, we put that commitment into action. Giving back to our communities isn’t just an honor it’s our responsibility.”
The CARES program reflects the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Foundation’s ongoing mission to strengthen communities statewide by investing in organizations that deliver real, life-changing services to New Mexicans when they need it most.
