New Mexico Tourism Dept. Takes Clean & Beautiful Grant Program To New Heights In FY22 With Record Participation

NMTD News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Tourism Department (NMTD) has awarded $789,800 to a record 53 communities through the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful Grant Program for FY22.

Due to increased interest in the program, NMTD was able to support an additional 16 communities in FY22 compared to FY21. The $789,800 grant program budget for FY22 also represents a $11,100 increase from FY21. NMTD also saw a significant increase of grantee retention in FY22. Nearly 90 percent of FY21 grant recipients applied for the program in FY22, compared to a previous retention rate of 71 percent for FY21.

Grant recipients will see an equitable distribution of funding through each of New Mexico’s six tourism regions. The Southeast region will see the largest share of program funds with 30 percent of program funds allocated for the region. The Northwest and Southwest regions will each receive approximately 17 percent of funding, and the Central and North Central regions will each receive approximately 14 percent of funding. The Northeast region will receive approximately 8 percent of funding.

Investments in New Mexico’s tribal communities through the NMTD Clean and Beautiful Grant Program will also increase in FY22. Five tribal communities will be awarded a total of $61,225.38 in FY22, representing a 308 percent increase of investment in New Mexico tribal communities.

“One of the things we’ve seen during the pandemic is the incredible demand for outdoor experiences and engagement with public lands,” Cabinet Secretary Jen Paul Schroer said. “By increasing our investment in waste reduction and community beautification efforts through the Clean and Beautiful Grant Program, the Tourism Department continues to provide communities support to Keep New Mexico True.”
