NMSP News:
ALBUQUERQUE — Over four days the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) DWI Unit and officers took 22 suspected impaired drivers off the streets of Albuquerque.
From Oct. 19 through Oct. 22, officers patrolled the streets and highways in Albuquerque, actively looking for signs of impaired driving. Their vigilant efforts paid off as they successfully apprehended multiple individuals who posed a risk to themselves and others on the road.
“These arrests highlight the dedication of our DWI Unit and officers in keeping New Mexico safe,” NMSP Chief Troy Weisler said. “Each DWI arrest made by my officers echoes the importance of responsible and sober driving. The consequences of driving under the influence can be severe, leading to accidents, injuries, and even loss of life. Impaired driving remains a significant concern, and we will continue to actively seek out suspected impaired drivers and take them off the road before they can harm our families. I hope that these arrests serve as a stark reminder of the potential harm associated with impaired driving and the legal consequences that come with it.”
Each year the NMSP DWI Unit takes approximately 500 impaired drivers off the road. In addition, the DWI Unit travels throughout the state to conduct DWI training and teaches at every State Police Recruit School and New Mexico Law Enforcement Basic Academy to ensure current and future officers are properly trained in the field of DWI.
