NMSP News:
ALBUQUERQUE — The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) began a series of proactive operations Sept. 19 in the Albuquerque area.
Officers are focusing their efforts on apprehending wanted violent felons and suppressing violent crime by targeting criminals believed to be involved in criminal activity in the Albuquerque area.
The public can expect to see an increase in NMSP officers in Albuquerque over the coming weeks as the operation intensifies, and additional NMSP officers are brought into the area. Working closely with federal and local law enforcement partners, NMSP will continue to tackle issues that burden the citizens of Albuquerque like auto theft, violent crime, drug trafficking and robbery.
“Let me be clear, if you are a wanted violent criminal or you are involved in violent crime in Albuquerque, you will be getting to know my officers very soon,” NMSP Chief Troy Weisler said. “Criminals have run amuck, terrorizing our streets and neighborhoods and creating a sense of lawlessness for too long. This is not a short-term operation; the New Mexico State Police are here to assist our fellow law enforcement agencies for the long term.”
In addition to addressing violent crime, NMSP will conduct traffic enforcement operations along Interstate 25 and Interstate 40 in Bernalillo County. They will be visible on the highways during peak traffic hours and take action to reduce crashes, aggressive driving, speeding, seatbelt usage, distracted driving and DWIs.
As the operation moves into full swing, the public will see regular updates on the progression and results of the operation. Follow NMSP on Twitter and Facebook @NMStatePolice for updates on the operation, as well as active scenes and additional operations being conducted across the state.
