New Mexico State Police And Lea County Sheriff’s Office Work Together To Stop Distracted Driving

LEA COUNTY The New Mexico State Police has recently seen an increase in motor vehicle crashes occurring in southern Lea County.
 
In 2019, State Police has investigated seven fatality crashes in Lea County, which has claimed 13 lives. Most of these crashes were preventable, as driver inattention and excessive speed have been the main factors that resulted in these crashes.
 
The New Mexico State Police and Lea County Sheriff’s Office will immediately begin joint patrol impact operations looking for reckless and inattentive drivers.
 
New Mexico State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers will also be focusing on companies who continue to operate unsafe commercial motor vehicles on the roadways of Lea County. There will be zero tolerance for drivers who fail to obey New Mexico traffic laws in the areas of the operation.
 
New Mexico State Police, Lea County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico Department of Transportation will be partnering to make the motoring public safer by reducing accidents and injuries in Lea County.
