New Mexico State Fair Junior Livestock Sale Sets Record

State Fair News:

ALBUQUERQUE – FFA and 4-H youth from across the state gathered together Friday, Sept. 13 for the prestigious New Mexico State Fair Junior Livestock Sale.

This event is the culmination of considerable time and effort spent breeding, raising, grooming and preparing their animals for the Fair. That hard work paid off, as the Junior Livestock Sale set a New Mexico State Fair record with $743,945 in sales. This number represents a 4.7% increase in sales over the previous record of $710,000, set at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.

“These kids work incredibly hard caring and nurturing their animals to prepare for the sale,” State Fair General Manager Dan Mourning said. “This record-breaking sale is a testament to their hard work and illustrates the community’s dedication to programs such as FFA and 4-H.”

Programs like 4-H and FFA teach the value of hard work, leadership skills and responsibility. Students who participate in these programs are provided with opportunities to learn about careers in the agriculture and farming industries and are encouraged to volunteer in their local communities. The Junior Livestock Sale has long been a tradition at the New Mexico State Fair and continues to be the premier showcase for the state’s finest livestock.

A comprehensive list of the Grand Champion sale is as follows:

  • Grand Champion Jr. Market Steer $21,000 | Harper Dunn | Lincoln County
