New Mexico STABLE $25 Match Incentive Extended Throughout 2026

State Treasurer Laura M. Montoya

From the State Treasurer’s Office:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico State Treasurer’s Achieving a Better Life Experience (NM STABLE) program is announcing the extension of its $25 match incentive offer for new accountholders.

NM STABLE is an award-winning savings and investment vehicle designed to allow New Mexicans with disabilities to save for disability-related expenses without losing eligibility for public benefits such as Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

New NM STABLE accountholders who open any NM STABLE account and deposit at least $25 will benefit from a one-time $25 match to help kickstart savings for a wide range of eligible disability-related expenses. NM STABLE accounts are available to eligible New Mexicans with disabilities, and contributions may be made by accountholders as well as family members, friends, employers, or other supporters.

As defined by NM STABLE, qualified expenses are those which “maintain or improve the health, independence, or qualify of life of the person with a disability,” including living expenses, education, housing, transportation, vacation, healthcare, assistive technology, financial management, legal fees, and more.

“I am proud to partner with the Ohio State Treasurer’s Office to bring a beneficial program and incentive to New Mexicans,” Treasurer Montoya said. “By extending this match benefit, we are providing individuals with disabilities the opportunity to build financial independence despite the oftentimes steep costs associated with disability. We also increased the maximum age of disability onset from 26 to 46, making it even more accessible to New Mexicans who may have attained a disability beyond early adulthood, such as our veterans and members of law enforcement. I remain committed to increasing accessibility and wealth for all New Mexicans, including our disability community.”
