New Mexico School Of The Art’s Theatre Department Presents: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

NMSA News:

Join NMSA’s Theatre Department for an exciting spin on a Shakespearian classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, running Feb. 19 -21, 2026 at NMSA’s Zane Bennett Gathering Space. Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1967 San Francisco, this radical reimagining of A Midsummer Night’s Dream transforms Athens High School into a pressure cooker of teenage rebellion and Golden Gate Park into an enchanted forest where anything can happen.

Audiences will be swept away on a kaleidoscopic romp through the Summer of Love, as NMSA’s rendition of A Midsummer Night’s Dream explodes Shakespeare’s timeless comedy into 1960s San Francisco—where flower power meets fairy magic, free love tangles with ancient spells, and a groovy theatre troupe stumbles through the chaos.

This is Shakespeare as you’ve never seen him: psychedelic, revolutionary, and bursting with heart.

“This production captures the spirit of an era defined by transformation: peace protests and personal awakenings, Haight-Ashbury and free expression, tie-dye and transcendence” says show director and NSMA Theatre Instructor, Garrick Sigl. “NMSA’s talented ensemble cast brings the Bard’s language to life with groovy energy and emotional truth, proving that Shakespeare’s exploration of love, identity, and social upheaval speaks directly to the revolutionary heart of the 1960s—and to us today.”

Tune in, turn on, and trip out to Shakespeare’s most magical comedy reimagined for the Age of Aquarius. Don’t miss this far-out production that proves love, laughter, and a little fairy dust are always in season—whether you’re in ancient Athens or Golden Gate Park.
