New Mexico Launches Network Of 500+ Teacher-Leaders Statewide

NMTLN News:

SANTA FE  Thursday, Education Secretary-Designate Christopher Ruszkowski announced the launch of the second wave of the New Mexico Teacher Leader Network (NMTLN) – comprised of more than 500 teacher-leaders from districts and charters across the state.

These teachers-leaders are working together to elevate the profession, share best practices, create new communications channels, bring classroom teacher voice to the forefront of policy and program conversations, and leverage all available resources in an effort to bring our professional community together, improve the quality of instruction, and dramatically improve outcomes for our students.

“For far too long, there has been clamoring for more authentic teacher voice at the table—there will now be hundreds more classroom teacher voices at that proverbial table,” Secretary-Designate Ruszkowski said. “Teacher-Leaders from all corners of New Mexico are now part of a unique movement – one that’s never been done before nationwide – that will allow for continued growth and collaboration statewide. They will also have the opportunity to serve their peers and colleagues by creating a new pipeline of information flowing into their schools, and into the PED.”

The New Mexico Public Education Department first started NMTLN in January 2017 with 50 State Ambassadors and, in just a short time, nearly 500 additional teachers stepped up to join the network. This new group will be led by the PED’s Teacher Liaisons, Alicia Duran (a high school teacher from APS) and Isaac Rivas-Savell (an elementary teacher from Eunice).

As NMTLN School Liaisons, New Mexico educators will gain a community of support that will help grow their expertise and position them to take on more formal teacher leadership roles, both in their communities and statewide. These teacher-leaders will meet in person to network and share strategies, methods, and solutions with fellow teaching professionals, PED staff members, and other members of the education community.

Upcoming NMTLN Scheduled Meetings:
  • November 1 – Ruidoso
  • November 2 – T or C
  • November 6 – Santa Fe
  • November 7 – Albuquerque
  • November 8 – Gallup
  • November 9 – Las Vegas
