New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission Launches Online Open House Option To Encourage Proactive Water Management Strategies

OSE Nws:

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission (NMISC) has launched the online open house option for Main Stream New Mexico, a series of statewide open house meetings designed to involve communities in proactive water management strategies.

The NMISC invites the public to provide input either online or at one of the regional in-person open houses.

In response to New Mexico’s water challenges, the NMISC is implementing these open houses as part of the 2023 Water Security Planning Act.

“These open houses are created to empower local communities to help New Mexico re-envision regional water planning,” NMISC Director Hannah Riseley-White said. “Communities know their values, norms, cultural practices, and water traditions best, and their input is essential to the state’s water security future.”

The online open house mirrors the in-person experience and provides the same input opportunities. New Mexicans can explore six sections on the Why, Where, Who, What, When and How of regional water planning and provide input on its reimagining until Aug. 18 at MainStreamNM.org/Online-Open-House.

There are nine 2024 in-person open house meetings remaining:

  • June 10: Hobbs
  • June 11: Roswell
  • June 12: Alamogordo
  • July 22: Socorro
  • July 23: Silver City
  • July 24: Las Cruces
  • August 5: Gallup
  • August 6: Farmington
  • August 7: Albuquerque

Main Stream New Mexico is the guide to revitalized regional water planning under New Mexico’s Water Security Planning Act of 2023. It is a campaign of the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission Water Planning Program.
