The 2022 Winter Outdoor Classic was played Sunday at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink to a sold out crowd. The New Mexico Ice Wolves took on the El Paso Rhinos in a physical and hard fought game on both ends.
The Ice Wolves Captain Ryan Johnson scored first in the match almost halfway through the first period. Early in the second period, the Rhinos tied the score at 1-1 with a power play goal by Ryan Cutler.
In the third period, the Ice Wolves took a 2-1 lead before the Rhinos scored two power play goals to win the match 3-2.
Before the game, a special opening ceremony was held to give out Ice Wolves jerseys to County Manager Steven Lynne, Council Chair Randall Ryti and Bob Nolen.
The NJROTC also were at the rink to present the colors while Jewel Jaramillo sang the National Anthem.
