ALBUQUERQUE — Court clerks of state and federal appellate courts from across the country will gather in New Mexico next month for a national conference. The 52nd annual meeting of the National Conference of Appellate Court Clerks (NCACC) will occur on Aug. 3-7 in Albuquerque. It features educational sessions on topics ranging from cyber security to access to justice and courthouse security.

“The conference offers a great opportunity to showcase the Land of Enchantment, the city of Albuquerque and our state court system in New Mexico,” state Supreme Court Chief Clerk Elizabeth A. Garcia said, who serves on the NCACC executive committee.

“The annual summer conference of the NCACC is an invaluable opportunity to become acquainted with our appellate colleagues from around the country and to attend training sessions specifically designed to discuss issues that are unique to appellate court clerks. The NCACC has a strong commitment to best practices in appellate court administration,” NCACC President and Clerk of the Appellate Courts of Kansas Douglas T. Shima said. “We are grateful to our New Mexico colleagues for hosting incredible programming and local events.”

Among the speakers at conference sessions are New Mexico Supreme Court Chief Justice David K. Thomson, who will participate in an interdisciplinary panel of federal, state and tribal courts. Justice C. Shannon Bacon and Torri Jacobus, director of statewide, equity, and justice at the Administrative Office of the Courts, are part of a panel discussion about access to justice issues.

Other conference speakers and panelists include Tenth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Timothy M. Tymkovich, retired Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Bernice B. Donald, former Navajo Nation Supreme Court Justice JoAnn Jayne, and the Hon. Tammi Lambert, a pro tempore judge in several tribal jurisdictions.
