New Mexico History Museum: Southwest History Research Grant Opportunity Now Open

NMHM News:

The New Mexico History Museum’s (NMHM) Fray Angélico Chávez History Library (FACHL) is looking to support research into Southwest history in the fourth year of its Steve Wimmer Southwestern Historical Research Fund.

The fund will provide the selected scholar with a $1,500 stipend, four nights of lodging at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe and use of FACHL’s collections to conduct their research.

What: Applicants for the Steve Wimmer Southwestern Historical Research Fund should prepare a letter of interest detailing the questions guiding their research and at least one collection they hope to use, as well as a CV or resume, no more than two pages each. Priority will be given to candidates whose study is focused on aspects, people, organizations, or industries from New Mexico history between 1879 and 1949. Read the full Research Fund guidelines and application information online. Archival collections can also be browsed online.

Who: New Mexico History Museum

When/Where: Applications are due by July 7, 2025, and should be sent to Kathleen Dull at historylibrary@dca.nm.gov.

Why: The Steve Wimmer Southwestern Historical Research Fund was founded in 2021 in honor of the head concierge at La Fonda on the Plaza in Santa Fe. He had abundant enthusiasm for New Mexico History and cultural tourism. The Fund has three aims: to help fund library digitization efforts, to purchase materials for library collections, and, primarily, to bring researchers to the heart of downtown Santa Fe, where they can advance their work and appreciate the things Steve loved.
