HED News:

ALBUQUERQUE — The New Mexico Higher Education Department (HED) in partnership with the New Mexico Adult Education Association (NMAEA) will host an event to kick off Adult Education and Family Literacy Week 11 a.m. to noon, Monday, Sept. 19 at the Albuquerque Adult Learning Center.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has issued a proclamation in recognition of the week.

National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week raises public awareness about the need for and value of adult education and family literacy. The goal of AEFL Week is to increase financial and societal support for access to education programs for U.S. adults with emerging literacy, numeracy, and digital skills.

The event will feature students sharing their experiences in adult education programs, as well as remarks from Higher Education Secretary Stephanie Rodriguez, New Mexico Adult Education Director Amber Gallup Rodriguez and NMAEA President Jamie Trujillo.

NMAEA also will present “Champion of Adult Education” leadership awards granted by the national Coalition for Adult Basic Education (COABE).

The event also will be live streamed via the Higher Education Department’s Facebook Page.
