ALBUQUERQUE – Law professor Barbara E. Bergman received an award June 12 honoring her lasting contributions to judicial education in New Mexico.

The New Mexico Court Education Institute (CEI) presented Bergman with the inaugural Rozier E. Sanchez CEI Faculty Award for excellence in judicial education during a ceremony in Albuquerque at the annual training conference for state court judges.

Bergman taught at the University of New Mexico School of Law for 28 years and in 2016 joined the faculty of the James E. Rogers College of Law at the University of Arizona, where she is the director of advocacy.

Professor Bergman embodies a “passion for service, excellence in education and dedication to the rule of law,” CEI Director Paula Couselo-Findikoğlu said in presenting the award.

The professor has taught at the yearly New Mexico Judicial Conclave for three decades.

The award is named after the late Second Judicial District Court Judge Rozier Sanchez, who served for more than two decades as chairman of the Judicial Education and Training Advisory Committee and was instrumental in building a comprehensive state-support judicial education system. The judge’s wife of 61 years, Victoria Sanchez, attended the award presentation.
