Want to learn more about the incredible geology of the Los Alamos area? Join the New Mexico Consortium 6 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at SALA Los Alamos Event Center, for a lecture on the geology of Northern New Mexico. The event is free and open to the public.
The “Your State of Science Series”, hosted by the New Mexico Consortium and ScienceFest/Los Alamos MainStreet, is bringing Professor Nelia Dunbar, State Geologist, New Mexico Bureau of Geology & Mineral Resources, New Mexico Tech to Los Alamos. After the lecture, at 7 p.m. on July 18, the SALA Los Alamos Event Center will be showing the film Dante’s Peak. Reserve movie tickets at: https://sala.losalamos.com/tickets/
Those interested may sign up for a free hands-on guided field trip led by Prof. Dunbar the following day, Friday, July 19. This field trip will meet at 8 a.m. at Overlook Park in White Rock, where breakfast will be provided. The field trip will explore the geology, ecology, and archeology of the Valles Caldera National Preserve and Jemez Mountains. To register, go to https://newmexicoconsortium.org/ysos/.
Prof. Dunbar’s visit to Los Alamos, and the field trip, are generously supported by Century Bank, Los Alamos.
