New Mexico Adopts Unaltered Science Standards For Climate Education

SIERRA CLUB News:

The organization, Climate Parents, issued the following statement on the decision by the New Mexico Public Education Department to adopt unaltered Next Generation Science Standards, climate change education:

“This is a great victory for New Mexico students and science education, and shows the power of people taking action together for our kids,” said John Friedrich, Climate Parents’ Online Campaign Manager. “All New Mexico students can now look forward to receiving a world-class science education that includes learning accurate information about human-caused climate change.

We applaud Secretary Ruszkowski for listening to the hundreds of science education supporters who wrote to the Public Education Department, and hundreds more who packed the public hearing beyond capacity last week, all calling on the PED to adopt unedited Next Generation Science Standards.

We’re grateful to Secretary Ruszkowski for reversing course, and taking action with the best interests of New Mexico students in mind.”
