New Mexico Actors Lab: ‘Morning Sun’ Opens June 7

NMAL News:

SANTA FE — New Mexico Actors Lab (NMAL) will open the second production of its 2023 season on June 7 with prolific English playwright Simon Stephens’ 2021 play, Morning Sun.

The production will run through Sunday, June 25.

In Greenwich Village, the city is alive. Joni Mitchell sings, friends and lovers come and go, and the regulars change at the White Horse Tavern.  As fifty years pass, one woman’s life is revealed in all its complexity, mystery, and possibility.

With a script that New York Magazine calls “a showcase for bravura performances”, the play offers beloved Santa Fe actors Suzanne Lederer, Debrianna Mansini and Vanessa Rios y Valles the opportunity to shine. Robert Benedetti and Kent Kirkpatrick will co-direct this production of Stephens’ play, which Theatremania described as “a piece with so many rich particulars that it evokes countless universals.”

Director Benedetti says, “This loving play about mothers and daughters has a dream cast of three of our favorite actors. It will be performed in a full round seating configuration we have never used before.”

Playwright Stephens won both the Tony and Olivier Best Play awards for his adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.

Tickets are now on sale at the NAML website, www.nmactorslab.com or at www.tix.com/ticket-sales/NMActorsLab/6585.

Individual tickets are $35, with students and two preview performances (June 7 and 8) costing $15. All performances will be held at NMAL’s permanent home, the Lab Theater, located at 1213 B Parkway Drive in Santa Fe – one block from Meow Wolf.

Performances begin 7:30 p.m. Wednesday – Saturday and Sunday performances begin 2 p.m. with a  “Talk Back” after the Sunday, June 1 performance featuring the directors and cast.
