New Curatorial Team To Shape New Mexico History Museum’s Vision For The Future

Mark Dodge

NMDCA News:

SANTA FE — The New Mexico History Museum is pleased to announce the expansion of its curatorial team. Mark Dodge joined the museum in October 2024 as the Curator of Southwest Memories and Keri Miki-Lani Schroeder started mid-January as the Curator of the Palace Press. Both positions add to the community engagement and understanding underlying the “Framework for the Future,” the museum’s vision for interpretation and dynamic collaborations presenting the stories of New Mexico through the lenses of inclusion, relevance, and engagement.

“I am so pleased Mark and Keri have joined us,” notes David L. Newell, Head of Curation & Exhibits. “I was impressed with their skills and knowledge during the interview process, and they are both already well into their first assignments. Mark is developing an exhibition regarding New Mexico at Statehood to open in 2026 and Keri is conducting an inventory and organizational assessment of the Palace Press’s resources and equipment.”

Dodge brings an extensive background in curation, exhibition development, and dynamic public programming. He holds an MFA in Anthropology from the University of Denver, and a BA in Sociology from the University of Michigan, Flint. For 18 years he served as curator at the Golden History Museum & Park in Colorado. During that time, he developed dozens of exhibits featuring the local people, places, and objects that told their story.

“I’m excited to join the team and work with staff to create fun and engaging exhibits and content,” Dodge said. “I’m especially looking forward to getting to know and learn from the people who call New Mexico home, sharing their stories, and building community in meaningful ways together.”

Keri Miki-Lani Schroeder

Schroeder holds an MFA in Book Art and Creative Writing from Mills College and combines this with an undergraduate degree in Art History. She understands and appreciates the rich legacy of the Palace Press and hopes to increase its reputation. Schroeder operated her own press and print operation, Coyote Bones Press, for nine years. She hosts her own podcast series, “Books in the Wild,” exploring aspects of the bookmaking field and craft lore.

Schroeder appreciates the “power of language and the printed word,” which is key to breathing new life into Press operations and programming at the museum. She aspires to cultivate emerging printers and artists and plans to engage with community groups and museum visitors through carefully crafted outreach programming.
