Navajo Nation Council Delegate Steven Begay

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) released the following statement on the passing of Navajo Nation Council Delegate Steven Begay:

“I’m sending my deepest condolences to Councilman Begay’s family during this unimaginably difficult time. Steven’s dedication to tradition and his leadership on behalf of the communities of Tohatchi made an impact. He never forgot those he represented, and his legacy as a strong advocate for his community will live on. As we process Steven’s untimely passing, my prayers are with the Navajo Nation.”

Editor’s note: According to the Navajo Times, Begay, 43, died Thursday and unconfirmed reports said he suffered a heart attack. Begay lived in Naschitti with his wife and two children.
