MIFA News:

Join the Museum Hill partners in celebrating Community Day on Museum Hill Sunday, Sept. 18!

FREE all day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities, panel discussions, music, and performances at Museum Hill Partner sites. Find a full schedule here.

As part of Community Day, Museum of International Folk Art (MIFA) welcomes Nathan Muus for a talk and performance 1:30 – 3 p.m. Muus is a Sámi American writer, musician, and Joiker, who has been involved in the Sámi American awakening for 30 years.

Of Norwegian/Swedish and Sami family descent, he has long practiced original the Joik (Sámi style traditional singing). He will be joined by a small group to play, sing, and discuss the yoik in Sámi culture and its development, as a North American diaspora experience. On one of a number of original music websites, Soundclick, Muus has more than 85,000 song listens.

Muus is one of the original founders of the Sámi Cultural Center of North America in Duluth, Minn.

Community Day is a rich cultural experience. On a normal day, visitors are exposed to a number of unique, powerful cultural exhibitions — on Community Day, with the Museum Hill partners coordinating, there will be a brilliant confluence of cultural performances from Indigenous and Hispanic communities, nature talks, and good food.
