Mountain Club Makes Splash At 2022 Long Course Season

First, congratulations to our swimmers and parents! 

Despite the pool closure, summer travel and cOVID-19, Mountain club swimmers were awarded:

  • The SECOND place in the New Mexico Swimming 2022 Summer Short Course B Championships Meet; and 
  • The THIRD place in the New Mexico Swimming 2022 Long Course 14 & Under Championships.

The New Mexico Swimming 2022 Summer Short Course B Championships Meet was held July 16 to July 17 at Genoveva Chavez Community Center Natatorium in Santa Fe.

Our Mountain Club had 24 swimmers participate in this meet and was awarded second place behind the Charger Aquatics.

Let us meet our club champions at this meet: 

  • Melia A (8), a daughter of Jeffrey and Nora Arbuckle, placed first at six events: 25 Free, 25 Breast, 25 Fly, 50 Free, 50 Breast, and 100 IM in Girls 10 & Under group;
  • David R (8), a son of Istvan Robel and Hye Young, placed first at six events: 25 Back, 25 Breast, 25 Fly, 50 Back, 50 Breast, and 100 IM in Boys 10 & Under group;
  • Ethan H (11), a son of David and Angela Herring, placed first for 100 Fly and 200 Fly in Boys 11-12 group;
  • Natan S (11), a son of Daniil Svyatsky and Natalia Sherman, placed first for 200 Back in Boys 11-12 group;
  • Kevin Z (11), a son of Ying Xiong and Nan Zou, placed first for 100 Breast and 200 Breast in Boys 11-12 group;
  • Julia Z (12), a daughter of Ying Xiong and Nan Zou , placed first for 200 Breast in Girls 11-12 group;

The New Mexico Swimming 2022 Long Course 14 & Under Championships was held July 21 to July 24 at Farmington Aquatic Center in Farmington.

Our Mountain Club had 10 swimmers participate in this meet and was awarded third place after the Charger Aquatics and Beast Aquatics.

Daniel and Zdenek Certik are brothers who returned back to our club in June this year. They had to swim as unattached swimmers and were unable to participate in the club relays per US Swimming rules. Their individual results for this summer were great!

For High Point awards at the 2022 Long Course 14 & Under Championships, here are the placement for our club swimmers:

  • Thomas D (12): First place for Boys 11-12 group;
  • Justin L (9): Second place for Boys 10 & Under group; and
  • Javier C (10): Third place for Boys 10 & Under group.

Our club individual recognition this season goes to Thomas D. Thomas who not only won six out of seven events, but also finished all his events with the Western Zone standards. It’s simply incredible!!! He is the only swimmer from Los Alamos who had long course meter zone times for the age group. He will represent New Mexico Swimming to participate in the 2022 Age Group Western Zone Meet at Elk Grove, CA next week.

Due to the sea level at the zone meet, he will challenge the 12 years old record for 50 Free. Good luck Thomas!

Our club relay recognition this season goes to the Mixed 10 & Under 200M Medley relay team: Justin L, Magnus L, Rachel B, and Leia L. They finished their race 0.4 seconds ahead!

I thought that the Mountain Club should be placed the 4th (not the third) as a team behind the Charger Aquatics, Beast Aquatics and Roadrunners of Albuquerque Aquatic Club in the 2022 Long Course 14 & Under Championships.
