Mother And Son Share Rare Leap Year Birthdays

Lorina Justus of White Rock and her son David share a rare birthday. It is unusual for a mother and child to share a birthday – but even more unusual for a mom born on leap day to give birth to a baby on leap day. ‘Doctors told us the probability was one in 2,134,521,’ Justus said. She was born on leap day in 1948 and her son David on leap day in 1972 at Los Alamos Medical Center. ‘It’s a real coincidence, it really is,’ she said, adding that she is now 19 years old in leap years and her son David is 13 years old in leap years. (A leap year is a calendar year that contains an additional day compared to a common year. The 366th day is added to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical year or seasonal year.)
