Gene Mortensen and Mike Katko of Los Alamos recently received the New Mexico Broadcasters Association (NMBA) 2020 Excellence in Broadcasting awards for small market radio stations. They won for their coverage on KRSN of the 2020 Semi-Final Boys District Basketball Contest between the Los Alamos Hilltoppers and the Taos Tigers in Taos. Mortensen was awarded Best Sports Play-By-Play and Katko won for Best Color Commentary. This is Mortensen’s second NMBA award for Best Play-By-Play. The awards are usually presented at the NMBA annual convention in June but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s recipients received their awards in the mail.
