Accident On Truck Route Leaves One Dead, Three Injured

LAPD News:

At approximately 6:11 a.m. today, a head-on collision occurred on East Jemez Road.(Truck Route), east of the Los Alamos Transit Mix entrance.

Los Alamos Fire Department and Los Alamos Police responded to the scene. 

The Truck Route was closed to assist in medical attention of the four individuals involved in the collision – the driver in one vehicle and the driver and two passengers in the second vehicle. 

The Los Alamos Police CRASH Team has responded to the scene to begin conducting an investigation into the cause of the collision.

Injured individuals include:

  • A 16-year-old female from Los Alamos taken by ambulance to UNM Hospital in Albuquerque;
  • A 59-year-old male from Gallina transported to Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMS);
  • A 46-year-old male from La Madera transported to LAMC; and
  • A 47-year-old male from Penasco transported to LAMC and pronounced deceased.

The Truck Route was re-opened at approximately 10:30 a.m. today and the LAPD CRASH Team remains on scene conducting its investigation. 

LAPD is reminding drivers that it has increased its traffic enforcement to commuting traffic as Los Alamos National Laboratory increases its workforce presence back at the Lab. 

“It is imperative that drivers maintain good conscious attention to the roadway, reduce speed and provide safe distance between motorists.” –LAPD

Note: LAPD will continue to conduct targeted traffic enforcement in the coming weeks to ensure commuter safety.
