At the March 12 meeting of the Kiwanis Club, Los Alamos Golf Course Manager Mike Lippiatt gave a presentation outlining the construction work in progress at the golf course.

The golf course was built and opened in 1947 and, other than an irrigation upgrade, the current renovation project is the “first facelift the course has had in 75 years,” Lippiatt said. The final design for this project was approved by the Los Alamos County Council in 2023.

The work scheduled is extensive:

  • the driving range will be leveled and reseeded;
  • a short game practice area will be added;
  • netting will be upgraded and extended;
  • two holes will be redirected to reduce the runaway golf ball incidents on Diamond Drive;
  • restrooms will be added as will as concrete cart paths;
  • all greens and sand traps will be redone; and
  • additional tee boxes will be installed for each hole to allow players to tee off from a choice of distances.

Lippiatt said that the project is expected to be completed in January 2025 and added that they hope to attract a greater diversity of players and provide a more accommodating facility for the area’s golfers.
