BUSINESS News:

Metzger Stores LLC owner Greg Metzger announced today that Metzger’s will exit the gasoline business effective Wednesday, Sept. 30.

The change will result in the closure of Metzger’s Mobil and Metzger’s auto repair shop at 1399 Diamond Dr. in Los Alamos and the discontinuance of gasoline sales at Metzger’s White Rock location. Propane sales will continue in White Rock after the initial construction phase is complete.

Metzger’s has been a Los Alamos staple since 1947, when the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission asked Lee Metzger, Sr. to open a retail store in the newly created community.

“We are proud of our history of growing with Los Alamos” said Metzger’s third generation owner Greg Metzger, “but as the needs of the community have evolved over the last few years, it has become apparent that our focus should now be on our Metzger’s Do it Best Hardware stores.”

As Metzger’s moves through these changes, Metzger’s will begin making improvements at its White Rock location to execute the first phase of a long term process to increase the store’s hardware offerings, initially by converting the existing gasoline canopy area into an outdoor display area. Metzger’s hardware store will remain open during the construction.

“While this is bittersweet on one hand,” Metzger said, “we are excited about the opportunities this change will provide us going forward to grow our business as we continue to evolve to meet the needs of the Los Alamos and White Rock communities.”
