The entire community is invited to the grand reopening of Metzger’s White Rock location and its 50th year serving White Rock, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13 at 128 State Road 4.
Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the newly remodeled store and check out great Mother’s Day sale prices. Free hot dogs and brats will be served beginning at 11 a.m. until gone, followed at 1 p.m. with cake and a ribbon cutting ceremony.
“This has been a long process, and we really appreciate the patience and support of our customers in White Rock,” Metzger’s General Manager David Jolly said. “Now that we’re done, I think it’s something everyone can be proud of and something that will bring a great shopping experience to White Rock.”
Metzger’s Owner Greg Metzger explained that Los Alamos has seen many changes since Metzger’s Hardware first opened in the old Commissary Building and Metzger’s has grown along with the community. With stores now in both Los Alamos and White Rock, Metzger’s offers a broad assortment of merchandise at competitive prices and a commitment to customer service that makes shopping at Metzger’s a preferred choice.
“As third generation owner, I’m committed to continuing to serve the Los Alamos, White Rock, and surrounding areas as we have been doing since 1947,” Metzger said. “I have reinvested heavily in the business because we are here to stay, and now we’ll be able to provide even better customer service along with an expanded product selection for our community. At Metzger’s we work hard to earn your business, and to be your first choice.”
His grandfather Lee Metzger Sr. founded the company 76 years ago. His father Lee Metzger Jr. took it over and eventually sold it to Greg.
Jolly explained that since the beginning, Metzger’s has focused on serving and supporting the community.
“Over the years, Metzger’s has given back to the community by supporting projects at our schools, youth groups and sports teams,” he said. “With our participation in Small Business Saturday over the years, Metzger’s has given back a portion of that day’s sales, donating thousands of dollars to the United Way of Northern New Mexico. Metzger’s also believes a strong community is key to a strong business, and supports community efforts to improve Los Alamos and White Rock through the Chamber of Commerce, Los Alamos MainStreet and the Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation.”
The company has surmounted significant challenges over the last several years beginning with the pandemic in 2020. Metzger praised his entire Metzger’s team for coming through it all with flying colors.
“I particularly want to mention the outstanding work of our White Rock Store Manager Cherity McDermott and Merchandising Specialist David Creamer,” Metzger said. “Cherity has stepped up beyond belief during this entire remodel process. She has exceeded my expectations and I cannot be more appreciative of all her extra hard work and time.”
McDermott joined Metzger’s as White Rock Store Manager on April 1, 2020.
“It was literally the day COVID hit the news,” she said during an interview Tuesday. “It has definitely been challenging with COVID and this remodel from the ceiling to the floors … but I’m happy here … Greg Metzger is patient, caring and understanding.”
McDermott spoke of losing her husband in December.
“Greg is a good person and has helped with everything … he and David Jolly are great people,” she said.
Creamer will celebrate his 20-year anniversary working at Metzger’s in September.
“When I started Greg Metzger’s father Lee Metzger Jr. was here and Greg has kept me here … it’s a great place to work,” Creamer said.
Metzger’s White Rock location offers: Propane Tank Refills, Scissors/Knife Sharpening, Glass Cutting, Key Cutting, Paint Color Matching and Local Delivery within Los Alamos County.
