COUNTY News:

The second annual Atomicon, hosted by Mesa Public Library, is scheduled for Saturday Aug. 5.

The one-day celebration of comic books and adjacent  fandoms offers something for all ages and will include art vendors, teaching artists, lectures, workshops, jam comics, children’s activities, a costume contest, food and much more.

Library programming staff are requesting booth or program applications from community members who are willing to participate in the day-long event 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and want to vend their wares, show off a collection, teach or demonstrate a skill, sell items they made, cosplay as part of roaming staff, or lecture about an area of expertise.

Librarian Melissa Mackey said, “We’re interested in pitches that will make our Atomicon a community event that Los Alamos comic lovers create and nurture.”

Last year’s inaugural event saw more than 1,500 members of the community come through the doors at Mesa Public Library. The enthusiastic response of wide-eyed event goers is a boon for all area vendors and small businesses seeking greater exposure, a broader audience, or new customers.

Booth space is free in 2023 as it was in 2022. Vendors who intend to facilitate sales at their  booths must adhere to library’s policy that only goods created personally by each vendor can be sold at library public events. Atomicon 2023 has expanded the event space to include Fuller Lodge, so the booth possibilities are significantly expanded also. The entry form is available online. The deadline is April 30.

Contact Melissa Mackey at 505.662.8258 or mj.mackey@lacnm.us with questions.
