MEOW WOLF News:

  • The portals are reopening March 19 with reduced capacity and advanced safety measures

SANTA FE – Meow Wolf, the Santa Fe-based arts and entertainment company, has officially announced the reopening date for their famed House of Eternal Return.

Starting Friday March 19, Meow Wolf will welcome guests in at 25 percent capacity, between Friday and Monday of every week. The reopening comes right as Meow Wolf marks its 5th anniversary, and celebrations are planned in the coming months.

Since closing in March 2020, Meow Wolf has spent the past year installing exciting upgrades to the exhibit with new installations from guest artists Corinne Loperfido, Paolo Puck, Obsidiopolis, and more. Attendees can secure their spot today with presale tickets available at meow.wf/tix.

Meow Wolf’s opening and reduced capacity adheres to New Mexico’s most recent public health order, which took effect Feb. 24. Meow Wolf also has revised its traffic flow and curtailed its interaction with immersive displays, so that the interactive experience more aligns with museum protocol.

Beyond physical space, Meow Wolf also has redesigned and reimagined “touch” as some experiences were previously centered around tactile exploration, including:

  • Digital Access to In-Exhibition Content. Meow Wolf has created more digital content to get into the storyline, including a Narrative app. Instead of flipping through a physical newspaper or book for clues, visitors can use their mobile phone for a non-touch experience.
  • No Touch/Low Touch. Some art that was ‘high-touch’ has been modified into ‘no touch’ or ‘low touch.’ For example, the iconic dryer portal is temporarily closed to physically crawl through, but visitors will still be able to take the perfect Instagram shot.

“This is an incredibly exciting moment for one of great attractions in the entire state of New Mexico – and for the many New Mexicans who love Meow Wolf,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said. “The state has reviewed Meow Wolf’s health protocols and is satisfied with the important efforts they have made to safeguard the health and welfare of visitors. I’m personally very excited to have places like Meow Wolf back open. It’s been a long year. It’s been an impossibly difficult year. But I think we can all feel good about our progress – and artistic and cultural destinations like Meow Wolf are incredibly important as we begin to heal and recover all together from this heinous pandemic.”

Meow Wolf appreciates the partnership with Gov. Lujan Grisham and her staff and will continue to work together to adapt the appropriate protocols based on the state’s guidance.

Implementing safety practices and protocols to protect employees, guests and the community while combating the spread of coronavirus is Meow Wolf’s main priority.

Here’s what to expect when visiting Meow Wolf:

  • Face Masks: In keeping with New Mexico state guidelines, face masks will be required at all times. Masks must cover both nose and mouth.
  • Temperature Checks: All guests will be required to have a non-invasive temperature check before being allowed in the exhibit.
  • Social Distancing: All visitors will need to practice social distancing and keep a minimum of 6 feet away from other groups and employees during their visit. Docents will also be available to help maintain protocol.
  • Ventilation Upgrades: Meow Wolf has increased outside air flow and circulation and upgraded its HVAC system by installing UV lights to clean air.
  • Employee Covid Testing – Meow Wolf will require employees to be tested weekly for Covid-19 utilizing New Mexico’s Department of Health recommended Vault Saliva Test.

In addition to the above, Meow Wolf will also be implementing safety measures for their staff and the exhibit. Every day, in preparation for guests, the House of Eternal Return will undergo rigorous sanitization.

In addition, employees will receive daily temperature checks and comprehensive COVID-19 safety and sanitization training to ensure they understand and feel confident managing the physical distancing and hygiene aspects of their roles. There will also be hand sanitizer dispensers placed at guest and employee entrances and contact areas.
