MEOW WOLF News:

SANTA FE — Locals are invited to the Railyard in Santa Fe for Meow Wolf’s 2024 Monster Battle, the friendly-freaky dance party where fantastical creatures from otherworldly realms meet.

Produced in partnership with Lensic360, the clash takes place at 6 p.m., Friday, June 28 when monsters, mutants and freaks of nature descend upon the Santa Fe Railyard to battle for the best dance moves. Community members are encouraged to wear their cutest, scariest, DIY-est creature attire, and enter to win out-of-this-world prizes.

Joining the weirdest dance party in this dimension is nationally-acclaimed DJ Polish Ambassador, who will bring signature beats and accessible dance vibes. Local DJs Spoolius and The Muse will also perform.

“What’s better than creative expression through self-adornment? We invite our fellow Santa Feans and Burqueños to create the most outlandish costume they can conjure. Come traverse the Multiverses as a monster or robot or fairy or alien. The most creative, resourceful and original costumes will win Sky Railway tickets, a Meow Wolf Portal Pass and Meow Wolf merch,” said Kate Daley, Director of Marketing at Meow Wolf Santa Fe.

The first Monster Battle took place in 2008 as Meow Wolf founders began their journey in Santa Fe prior to the inception of the House of Eternal Return. Artists fabricated unique costumes representing various creative creatures that “battled” with humans to override their anarchy as they flooded the plaza.

Meow Wolf founder Benji Geary explained the otherworldly phenomena in a recent interview, “In our physical plane, it manifested in Santa Fe around 2009 on the Plaza. It started as a flash mob. It was unsanctioned by the city; it was just something we decided we were going to do. Dada-ist and abstract enough, but also overt enough that people knew something was happening even if they couldn’t pin it down as a specific event. They thought, ‘Oh. This is just happening on Earth. These monsters are just showing up here.’ It was strangely well-received.”
