LAPD News:
The Los Alamos Police Bomb Squad was sent a request by a local Los Alamos mother to create beeping Easter eggs for her visually impaired child and the child of a friend.
Ms. “Erin” learned that the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI) create beeping Easter eggs for children with visual impairments so that they can still participate in festivities involving an Easter egg hunt. However, this spring IABTI received so many requests for beeping Easter eggs that they were out of stock.
That is when Erin reached out to the LAPD Bomb Squad, one of only six Public Safety certified FBI Bomb Squads in the State of New Mexico. LAPD was happy to oblige.
Last week the LAPD Bomb Squad wrapped up its monthly training and LAPD Bomb Technicians sat down at the end of their training to create a dozen beeping Easter eggs complete with an on/off switch to allow Erin’s son Louie and friend to have a fun Easter experience.
Today LAPD Bomb Squad Cmdr. Preston Ballew and Cmdr. Oliver Morris delivered the eggs along with some goodies to Louie. Louie made a thank you card for the technicians, which will be placed in the hallway at LAPD.
“We are grateful to be a small part of this week’s Easter activities for some of our local children,” Cmdr. Morris said.
LAPD Bomb Squad members include Bomb Squad Cmdr. Preston Ballew, Cmdr. Oliver Morris, Sgt. Chris Ross, Cpl. Ben Hinrichs and Cpl. Sheldon Simpson.
