May The Fourth-Themed Food Drive Noon-4PM Today

FOOD DEPOT News:

SANTA FE — The Food Depot is hoping one of its successful annual food drives can bring some relief to those being affected with wildfires and evacuations in northern New Mexico.

This year’s “The Food Drive Strikes Back” — noon to 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 4 — will be aimed entirely at supporting efforts of those fighting wildfires and those being affected by evacuations.

“While this is a light-hearted and fun event that we are happy to host once again, we are well aware of the serious events happening around us with our fellow New Mexicans. We have an incredibly generous community, especially in times of need, and hope they will join us tomorrow,” Food Depot Executive Director Sherry Hooper said.

Donors will be asked whether their haul should be credited to the Empire or the Rebellion. The total weight donated will be tallied and the winners will rule the galaxy. Thank you to Market Street, Albertson’s Market and Starbucks for joining with volunteers.

The Food Depot warehouse is at 1222 A Siler Road. Online donations may be made at www.thefooddepot.org/disaster-relief. Text-by-phone also is available by texting @thefooddepot and the hashtag “#Fire” to 52014.

Items requested for this year’s event:

Beef jerky, bottled water of any amount, but cases are easiest to transport, Gatorade, individually wrapped, non-perishable snacks, Chapstick, eyedrops, socks, sunblock, hygiene products including but not limited to baby wipes, Q-tips, women’s menstrual products, soap and toothpaste.
