Luna Fire Consumes 10,142 Acres; 61 Percent Contained

EMNRD-FORESTRY DIVISION News:

The Luna Fire, north of Chacon on the Camino Real Ranger District, Carson National Forest, is now 61 percent contained and remains estimated at 10,142 acres.

Containment lines are holding with no new fire growth detected. No structures are threatened. Firefighters will continue to monitor fire lines, mop-up hot spots, and assess suppression repair opportunities on the state and private lands that are affected.

As temperatures rise and the snow melts off, pockets of unburned fuels and smoldering heavy fuels will dry out and may reignite producing smoke.

Stage 1 fire restrictions remain in effect on the Carson National Forest until further notice to reduce the risk of human-caused fires.

If there are no significant changes in fire behavior, the next fire update will be issued Friday, Nov. 6, 2020.
