U.S. CONGRESSIONAL News:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement Friday in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Monday, our nation will pause to reflect on the life and legacy of a remarkable man whose compassion and enduring pursuit of justice and equality impacted the lives of so many and whose message continue to resonate to this very day.

“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. preached of our responsibility to each other, that we are one nation, indivisible, and that as such – to quote President Kennedy – ‘what unites us is far greater than what divides us.’ He reminded us that we must join together as a community to look out for one another, to help one another, and to love one another. Dr. King wisely said, ‘life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?’

“It is this legacy and memory of Dr. King that continues to inspire us to this day and continue to move us to action. He knew that in the face of injustice and inequality, we all have a part to play – to stand up and speak out, to lend our voice and our self to make a better society and better future – because as he said, ‘injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ These wise words combined with his tireless spirit serve as an example to strive for and a beacon to guide us toward a brighter future for all people.”
