U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham
CONGRESSIONAL News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham issued the following statement on negotiations between the Smith’s Food and Drug grocery chain and its employee union:
“I am deeply concerned about the stalled labor negotiations between Smith’s grocery stores in New Mexico and the employee union – UFCW Local 1564 – representing more than 2,000 workers who continue to work without a new contract.
“New Mexico is struggling to break out of a double-dip recession and it is more important than ever that those who have jobs are provided fair wages, benefits, and working conditions.
“As a scheduled National Labor Relations Board hearing approaches, I encourage both sides to negotiate in good faith and quickly agree to a new contract that will provide a fair and secure financial future for both the company and its workers.”
