Luján And FTC To Educate Children And Seniors On Safe Online Practices

  • Encourages Students to Share with Care and Help Seniors Learn How to Avoid Scams

SANTA FE –  U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District will join with a representative from the Federal Trade Commission to hold two events Wednesday, Sept. 2 to share best practices and tips to be safe online and avoid scams, identity theft, and other forms of fraud.

At Luján’s invitation, Dama Brown, the FTC’s director of the Southwest Region, will be in Northern New Mexico to participate in a school assembly regarding cyber safety and bullying, followed by a forum with senior citizens in the Southern part of the district to discuss and security, as seniors are the largest targeted group for internet, mail, and phone scams. 

Representatives from the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division and Charity Division, as well as the Internal Revenue Service’s Taxpayer Advocate Service will also share important information at the forum.
