This past Sunday, the Los Alamos Youth Soccer League (LAYSL) enjoyed a special day at the New Mexico United soccer game, marking a memorable experience for our young athletes and their families.  The event, held on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, was the perfect way to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our young soccer stars after a full Saturday of LAYSL matches.

The day’s festivities went beyond simply watching the game. LAYSL was proudly recognized in front of the crowd, highlighting the league’s contributions to youth soccer. This night was also special for our Indigenous population as it was “Indigenous Peoples Night”. Our young players took on vital roles as ball managers, with the younger members also having the honor of escorting the New Mexico United and Loudoun United teams from their locker rooms to the field for the National Anthem. These moments gave the kids a unique opportunity to see what is possible for those passionate about the sport, and to meet athletes who are living out their own dream of playing professionally.

In addition to these responsibilities, two special on-field experiences were arranged for all the children. Before the game, LAYSL teams were invited to watch from the sidelines as both teams warmed up, giving them an up-close view of professional players in action. After the game, the kids were thrilled to be allowed back onto the field to meet the players, collect autographs and take pictures, creating lasting memories.

The event also served as a fundraiser for LAYSL, helping the league continue its mission of fostering youth soccer in the community. But more importantly, it provided a chance to showcase what LAYSL has to offer and encourage new families to join. Whether your child is a seasoned player or just starting out, LAYSL offers programs for all skill levels, allowing them to grow both on and off the field.

The game itself was a thrilling contest, with New Mexico United securing a 1-0 victory. The excitement of the match was felt by everyone in attendance, but it was the smiles on the faces of the LAYSL kids with their friends and families that truly made the day special.

Overall, it was a fantastic event that brought our soccer community together, showing the children that through hard work and dedication, the sky’s the limit. The kids, parents, and coaches all left the stadium with a renewed passion for the sport and unforgettable memories. If your child is interested in soccer or you’re looking for a way to get them involved in an active and supportive community, LAYSL is the perfect place to start!
