Los Alamos Urologist Pavel V. Mourachov

Staff Report

Following an investigation, Los Alamos police obtained an arrest warrant and have charged Los Alamos Urologist Pavel V. Mourachov with two counts of aggravated assault against a household member with a deadly weapon, extreme cruelty to animals and harassment.

According to police documents obtained this evening by the Los Alamos Daily Post, Mourachov, 41, was arrested at approximately 2:15 p.m. today in the parking lot of Los Alamos Medical Center, 3917 West Road.

The criminal complaint indicates that Mourachov assaulted or struck at his spouse with an ax and a pistol. The harassment charges stem from neighbors who reported Mourachov slashed tires on their vehicle as well as other malicious behaviors. The extreme cruelty to animals charge is related to Mourachov reportedly shooting his family’s black cat with an arrow and placing it in a neighbor’s yard.

Police found the cat alive and rushed it to a local veterinary clinic where it died in surgery. Mourachov’s wife told police that the cat was about 18 years old and she confirmed that her husband owned a compound bow and arrows, according to the police report.

Last year in April, police transported Mourachov to LAMC for emergency mental health evaluation and care following a 911 call from a family member reporting that Mourachov may be suicidal. Police arrested him April 4, 2012 at his home at 390 El Conejo and charged him with assault on a peace officer, DWI and resisting/evading/obstructing officers during his arrest.

He was placed on probation and ordered to attend counseling sessions.

Mourachov is now being held without bond in the Los Alamos County Detention Center pending a hearing.
