Los Alamos Tennis Club Team Advances To District Finals

The Los Alamos Tennis Club 3.5 40-over team defeated a team from Albuquerque’s Jerry Cline Tennis and Recreation Center 4-1 in matches played Saturday, Nov. 14, at Urban Park and the Mesa tennis courts. 
 
Three doubles matches and two singles matches were contested. In number one singles, Dave Cook defeated Dwight McNeil 6-4, 6-2. At number two singles, Xianzhu Tang easily prevailed over Randy Rosenthal in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1 in a match played at the Mesa courts.
 
At number one doubles, the LATC team of Geoff Mills and Harry Majors defeated the Carl Hofsfield and David Walsh in a thrilling three set match 4-6, 7-5, 1-0. Mills and Majors won the third set tie-breaker 10-8 after being behind during most of the tie-breaker.
 
In number two doubles, Jae Chang and Yu Seung Kim defeated Jeffrey Hillmeyer and Dan Williams in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Finally in number three doubles, Jeff Abes and John Charles were defeated in a close match 7-5, 5-7, 0-1 by Dean Strassburger and Charles Modrich.
 
The LATC team now advances to the Northern New Mexico District playoff final against another team from Albuquerque’s Jerry Cline Tennis and Community Recreation Center. The matches are scheduled to begin at noon Saturday, Nov. 21, weather permitting. The winner of the playoff advances to the Sectional tournament in May of next year.
